HC Deb 28 May 1946 vol 423 cc971-2
43. Mr. Holmes

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power how many collieries in Yorkshire have pit-head baths installed; how many there are without pit-head baths; and what steps are being taken to provide baths where none are at present installed.

Mr. Shinwell

Sixty-five mines employing over 70 per cent, of the mineworkers in Yorkshire have pit-head baths in- stalled; and 84 mines, including 29 small mines employing fewer than 50 men each, are at present without them. The pithead bath building programme unfortunately had to be stopped during the war; it has now been resumed by the Miners' Welfare Commission and will be progressively accelerated as increased supplies of labour and material become available. A number of Yorkshire mines are included in the baths building programme for the current year.
