HC Deb 28 May 1946 vol 423 c984
51. Colonel Crosthwaite-Eyre

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster under what ordinance of the Allied Conrol Commission, Herr Scheidermann, chef d'orchestre of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, has been prohibited from giving recitals or accepting chamber music engagements whilst allowed to retain his position of chef d'orchestre.

Mr. R. J: Taylor

The action referred to by the hon. and gallant Member was taken by the Russian authorities as Herr Schneiderhahn—who is, I understand, the person referred to—was resident in the Russian sector of Vienna. He is stated to have been a member of the Nazi Party. Discussions are proceeding in Vienna with a view to dealing with cases of this kind on a quadripartite basis.
