HC Deb 28 May 1946 vol 423 c997
86. Mr. Beechman

asked the Minister of Labour whether service given in tin mines by persons directed from the Army into the mines will count as a credit in connection with the release groups.

Mr. Isaacs

Periods on release to civilian employment, including work in tin mines, do not count as service for the purpose of determining a soldier's age and service group.

Mr. Beechman

Can the Minister explain on what possible principle this gross injustice is maintained?

Mr. Isaacs

I do not agree that it is a gross injustice; obviously we could not confine these facilities to one class of people in one special industry.
