HC Deb 28 May 1946 vol 423 c991
56. Mr. Emrys Hughes

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he has considered the recent legislation passed in Eire under which Mr. Bernard Shaw has transferred his property there to a voluntary civic improvement fund for the good of the community; and if he will introduce legislation in this country to enable patriotic and public-spirited landlords to make similar arrangements.

Mr. Dalton

Yes, Sir, and Mr. Bernard Shaw was good enough to write to me himself about this. I think that our existing legislation already allows such transfers, but I am having the question carefully examined.
