HC Deb 27 May 1946 vol 423 c803
7. Mr. William Shepherd

asked the Minister of Supply at what percentage of full capacity the tinplate trade is operating in this country.

Mr. Wilmot

At about 60 per cent., Sir.

Mr. Shepherd

Will the Minister say why there is so small a production, and is he able to confirm the report that the tinplate administrator has issued an order prohibiting the further use of tinplate, except for foodstuffs?

Mr. Wilmot

There is a shortage of labour, and that is the principal difficulty.
