HC Deb 27 May 1946 vol 423 c818
45. Commander Maitland

asked the Prime Minister if he has yet decided under which Ministry the duty of protecting the coast line of Great Britain from coast erosion is to be placed.

The Lord President of the Council (Mr. Herbert Morrison)

I have been asked to reply. No, Sir. The Government's inquiries, which include an investigation into the measure of the problem, will take some time yet. For the present, my right hon. Friend the Minister of Health will deal with questions which arise.

Commander Maitland

Does the hon. Gentleman realise that during the Debate which took place in this House not very long ago all sides of the House pressed upon the Government the urgency of this problem, and the importance of getting a Minister appointed as soon as possible?

Mr. Morrison

Yes, Sir. That is exactly what is under consideration and we have every intention of straightening it out. It is a great reflection on the previous Government that it has not been straightened out before.
