HC Deb 27 May 1946 vol 423 cc825-6
61. Brigadier Low

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs whether he will discuss with the Canadian military authorities the exchange of accommodation occupied by them at the Government Buildings, Bromyard Avenue, Acton, with the Ministry of Pensions staff now evacuated to Blackpool, thereby giving the people of Blackpool an opportunity of entertaining Dominion Forces and. at the same time, returning nearly 500 of the Ministry's staff to their homes in London after an absence of seven years.

The Under-Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs (Mr. Bottomley)

As regards the return to London of the evacuated staff of the Ministry of Pensions, I would refer to the reply given to the hon. and gallant Member by my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer on 23rd May. The position as to the buildings at Acton to which the hon. and gallant Member refers will no doubt be examined as part of the general question.

Brigadier Low

Will the hon. Gentleman give us any idea as to how long the Canadian military authorities are likely to occupy this building?

Mr. Bottomley

I am afraid I cannot answer that question.
