§ 42. Mr. Moyleasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will now inform the House of the result of the appeal to members of the public to surrender firearms and ammunition.
§ Mr. EdeReturns which my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland and I have obtained from Chief Officers of Police show that during the period from the 14th February, when we made our appeal, to the 31st March 75,996 weapons were surrendered in Great Britain, of which 1,580 were continuous fire weapons, 59,112 were pistols or revolvers, and 13,509 were rifles. In addition, 2,207,751 rounds of ammunition were surrendered, together with 5,873 shells, grenades and bombs.
