§ 46. Mrs. Ganleyasked the Prime Minister whether he will raise the question of the nationality of married women at the Imperial Conference.
§ The Prime MinisterThe forthcoming meeting will not be a full Imperial Conference, but a personal meeting of Prime Ministers to discuss certain questions of major policy. In these circumstances this 207 meeting would not afford a suitable opportunity for raising the question of the nationality of married women.
§ Mr. Peter FreemanIs it not a fact that this matter has already been settled by South Africa, by themselves on their own initiative? Would it not be possible for this country to do the same?
§ The Prime MinisterIt might be, but it would not be advisable.
§ Mr. ErrollCould not the right hon. Gentleman institute inquiries into the matter and get something moving?
§ The Prime MinisterThat has been considered. It does need consultation with our Dominions.
