§ The Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster (Mr. John Hynd)The military staffs of the British Element of the Control Commission for Germany have a total strength of some 4,500 officers and 13,000 other ranks. Their estimated annual effective cost is —'4,300,000 in pay and insurances and —1,200,000 in allowances. Roughly 2,000 officers hold a rank lower than that of major. I regret that in the time available it has not been possible to isolate the figures for N.C.Os.
