HC Deb 25 March 1946 vol 421 cc3-4
14. Mr. Anthony Nutting

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will provide the necessary facilities for a parliamentary delegation to visit Persia.

Mr. McNeil

My right hon. Friend has already been asked if he will provide facilities for a small party of hon. Members to visit Persia. He has agreed to make the necessary arrangements for the journey.

Mr. Nutting

While I thank the Minister for that very satisfactory answer, will he assure the House that the delegation in question will have the fullest freedom of movement through Persia, and in particular, through Northern Persia?

Mr. McNeil

I should be surprised if Members of the House were offered any unreasonable barriers, but I think we had better await the report of members of the party.

Mr. Scollan

Does not this sort of thing savour of interference in the domestic affairs of other countries?

Mr. McNeil

If the Persian Government offered any objections at all, these would be considered, but I would be surprised if there were objections.
