HC Deb 25 March 1946 vol 421 cc34-5
90. Mr. Douglas Marshall

asked the President of the Board of Trade, in view of the coming holiday season and the wish to gain invisible exports and to give our hard-worked people a holiday, if he will consider making available a greater supply of paper for the publication of guides.

Mr. Belcher

A substantial increase in the amount of paper for this purpose was given in November last and, having in mind the paper supply position, it is regretted that no further increase can be made at the present time.

Captain Francis Noel-Baker

Can the Minister say whether it is, or is not, Government policy to encourage tourists in the coming holiday season?

Mr. Belcher

Yes, it is certainly our policy to encourage the tourist trade in the future, but I am asked a Question about paper supply. I think the facts about the restricted paper supply in this country are sufficiently well known.

Sir Wavell Wakefield

Will the Minister consider allocating greater amounts of paper to those engaged in making up export trade journals and catalogues for visible exports?

Mr. Belcher

That is a totally different question.
