HC Deb 25 March 1946 vol 421 c20
46. Mr. Bartlett

asked the Prime Minister whether he will consider the advisability of paying a visit to Moscow so that, by frank talks with Marshal Stalin, he may discover how, and to what extent, Soviet preoccupations with security can be reconciled with our own.

The Prime Minister

As I said in reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Upton (Mr. A. Lewis) on 13th March, I am ready to adopt any means likely to improve relations between the Great Powers. However, since the Security Council of the United Nations is now holding a meeting in New York, I do not consider that it would be advisable for me to make a proposal of such far-reaching importance to Marshal Stalin at the present time.
