HC Deb 21 March 1946 vol 420 cc2037-8
75. Sir W. Smithers

asked the Minister of Education why the civil servants in her office have been forbidden to work more than 45½ hours a week.

Miss Wilkinson

The staff of my Department have not been forbidden to work more than 45½ hours a week and to my regret many of them are, in fact, obliged to continue to do so.

Sir W. Smithers

Would the right hon. Lady make fresh inquiries? In view of the recent rise in the cost of living bonus, is not the reason for this limitation of hours more than wiped out by the 7s. increase?

Mr. Speaker

That is quite outside the scope of the Question.
