HC Deb 21 March 1946 vol 420 cc2018-9
31. Mr. Sparks

asked the Minister of Health how many local authorities have availed themselves of the powers conferred by Section 151 of the Housing Act, 1936; and if he will, in suitable cases, encourage the exercise of such powers.

Mr. Bevan

According to the Department's records, Section 151 of the Housing Act, 1936, has been used only once. I should be prepared to consider any application made under the Section.

Mr. Sparks

Does not the Minister consider that it would be advisable to remind local authorities of the existence of these powers in view of the fact that so very few have taken steps to avail themselves of them?

Mr. Bevan

I think that local authorities are very well aware of. the existence of these powers of co-operation, but as we saw yesterday evening they are not always anxious to co-operate.
