HC Deb 21 March 1946 vol 420 c2037
64. Mr. Gammans

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury how many vacancies exist at present in the clerical classes of the Civil Service under the Reconstruction Scheme; and how many posts have been filled since the scheme came into operation.

Mr. Glenvil Hall

The number of vacancies has not been finally ascertained, but will probably be of the order of 15,000. The results of the first Reconstruction Competition for the clerical classes are about to be declared; 1,181 candidates will be declared successful, and 1,584 will be placed on a reserve list to be considered in conjunction with the results of a later competition.

Mr. Gammans

Would the hon. Gentle man say if members of the Civil Service in the non-clerical classes are eligible to be considered for these appointments if they have the necessary qualifications—sorters, for example?

Mr. Glenvil Hall

If they have the necessary qualifications. The hon. Gentleman will find those in Command Paper 6567 which he can get at the Vote Office.
