§ 31. Mr. Nuttingasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether the recent radical changes in the Japanese Constitution were approved by the Far Eastern Commission before being put into effect by General MacArthur.
Mr. McNeilOn 6th March the Japanese Government published the draft of a new Constitution which is to be submitted to the Diet after the general election next month. No changes of any land have yet been put into effect. The futurs constitutional structure of Japan is a matter of concern to all members of the Far Eastern Commission and, as the hon. Member is no doubt aware, the United States Secretary of State is reported to have stated at his Press Conference on 12th March that the draft Constitution would come before the Commission in due course.
