HC Deb 14 March 1946 vol 420 c1276
33. Captain C. Smith

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that suitable persons who have secured experience of mental nursing by service on a temporary basis on the staff of mental hospitals during war time are being discharged from such hospitals where hours of duty are still in excess of the 96 hour fortnight; and whether he will investigate the subject to make sure that such people are not lost to the mental nursing service.

Mr. Bevan

The appointment or discharge of staff in mental hospitals rests with the visiting committee in each case, and I have no power to intervene. I have no information to suggest that the practice referred to in the Question is at all common, but if my hon. and gallant Friend will let me have any information in his possession, I will consider it.
