HC Deb 14 March 1946 vol 420 c1284
59. Mr. Thomas Lewis

asked the Minister of Labour the number of building trade workers employed in the shipbuilding and ship-repairing yards at Southampton on 1st October, 1945, and 11th March, 1946, respectively.

Mr. Isaacs

Approximately 800 at 1st October, 1945, and 533 at nth March, 1946.

Mr. Lewis

Does the Minister think it right and proper for building trade workers to be used for reconditioning luxury liners in preference to building houses?

Mr. Isaacs

The hon. Gentleman has asked me for some information. I have given him the information and I do not think that I ought to express an opinion on the other matter.
