56. Mr. Challen

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware of the fact that men on discharge from the Forces have to pay Income Tax on the service pay they receive during the leave to which they are entitled, discourages many of them from taking up paid work during that period; and whether, in view of the necessity for encouraging productive work, he will consider remitting Income Tax on the paid leave of Service- men on demobilisation.
