HC Deb 12 March 1946 vol 420 cc932-3
25. Mr. Sidney Shephard

asked the Minister of Labour if he is aware that Mr. J. S. Mann, Lowdham, Nottinghamshire, who served four and a half years in the R.N. and then volunteered for the mines, is unable to obtain his release, although his group was demobilised last November' and when this man will be able to resume his prewar employment.

Mr. Isaacs

On the general question, 1 would refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave to the hon. Member for South Islington (Mr. Cluse) and the hon. and gallant Member for Bewdley (Major Conant) on 18th December last, a copy of which I am sending him. Mr. Mann applied for his release from the mines on medical grounds. The local appeal board made a recommendation in his favour, and on 3rd March he was given permission to leave the industry.

Mr. Shephard

While I am very glad to hear that this man has been released, might I ask the right hon. Gentleman what is the position of men similarly placed?

Mr. Isaacs

I cannot add to the answer which I gave.
