HC Deb 07 March 1946 vol 420 cc504-5
57. Mr. Turton

asked the Minister of Labour whether he will give an assurance that workers in the Forces who express a wish to go back to agriculture will be granted immediate release in view of the present emergency.

The Minister to Labour (Mr. Isaacs)

The Service Departments are already offering Class B release under the block scheme to all agricultural workers who are releasable and have served a minimum of one year in the Forces.

Mr. De la Bère

Why is it that in general the Government are quite unable to provide a supply of agricultural workers, in face of the desperate food situation throughout the country?

Mr. Isaacs

I have not the slightest idea what that supplementary question has to do with the Question on the Order Paper.

Mr. De la Bère

It has to do with the failure of the Government.
