HC Deb 05 March 1946 vol 420 c181
59. Mr. Lipson

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will give an assurance that men from the Forces, including those who are over 30 years of age, will be eligible for permanent appointments on the technical and professional staffs required by the Treasury.

Mr. Dalton

Yes, Sir, for permanent appointments in the professional and technical branches throughout the Civil Service. The upper age limit will be 30 for scientists and will range between 35 and 45 in other cases, varying according to the qualifications and experience required.

Mr. Lipson

Does that answer mean that a man who has served in the Forces will be in no way handicapped in respect of his eligibility for these appointments?

Mr. Dalton

Certainly not, ages being equal.
