HC Deb 05 March 1946 vol 420 cc170-1
43. Mr. McGovern

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the aggregate annual rental for local taxation purposes of the three Scottish islands of Eriskay, South Uist and Benbecula; how much of the rental attaches to crofter holdings; and how much is in respect of fishing, shooting and other sporting purposes; if he is aware that these islands were recently sold by the trustees of Lady Cathcart to Mr. H. A. Andreae; and at what price they were sold.

Mr. West wood

According to the valuation roll for 1945–46 the gross annual value of the three islands is £9,815 of which £3,841 relates to agricultural subjects, most of which are crofter holdings, and £267 to shootings and fishings. Mr. Andreae's property in the islands dates from 1944, when he purchased the interest of the trustees of Lady Cathcart for £75,000. The subjects now owned by him have a gross annual value of £3,935 of which £3,525 relates to Agricultural subjects and £247 to shootings and fishings.
