§ 26. Air-Commodore Harveyasked the Minister of Labour how many temporary commissioned officers who have been de mobilised from the R.A.F. have been found employment; and how many have their names on the waiting list of the Appointments Board.
§ The Minister of Labour (Mr. Isaacs)The statistics maintained by my Department of ex-Service personnel do not distinguish between the Services and I regret that the information asked for by the hon. and gallant Member is not available.
§ Air-Commodore HarveyIs the Minister aware that a number of these officers are going round unemployed? Is he further aware that some of the men in his Department who are trying to get these officers jobs have no experience, and will he try to improve the standard of the men who are trying to get the others jobs?
§ Mr. IsaacsIt would have been better if that Question had been put on the Order Paper, but I can say that the men employed by the Department on this job have every experience and they are assisted in their labours by officers. From 1st May, 1945, to 11th February, 1946, 3,439 ex-Service personnel have been found appointments by the Department.
§ Air-Commodore HarveyYes, but would the right hon. Gentleman give the figures of the men who have not got jobs?
§ Mr. IsaacsYes, Sir, if the hon. and gallant Gentleman will put down a Question I shall be glad to reply.
