HC Deb 04 March 1946 vol 420 c3
3. Mr. Thomas Macpherson

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that the shortage of imported timber scaffolding poles is holding up building operations; and if he will make arrangements for supplies to be made available as soon as possible.

Sir S. Cripps

No, Sir. Supplies of timber are severely restricted, but I am not aware that any shortage of timber scaffolding poles is holding up building operations. If my hon. Friend will let me have specific information of any such cases, I will have inquiries made.

Colonel Ropner

Is the right hon. and learned Gentleman aware that the Forestry Commissioners still have large areas of growing timber which might well be utilised more extensively?

Sir S. Cripps

I am aware that there are further areas, but we have already very heavily cut into them and must conserve, as best we can, our home supplies.
