HC Deb 04 March 1946 vol 420 cc25-6
58. Major John Morrison

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he will give any encouragement to the growing of maize.

The Minister of Agriculture (Mr. Thomas Williams)

The growing of maize for grain production has not hitherto been practicable in this country, but experiments now proceeding under the supervision of the Agricultural Research Council are giving promising results. My Department may shortly be able to issue information on the subject. Full information and advice on the cultivation of maize for use as a green fodder crop, or for making silage, is available in the Ministry's Bulletin No. 72 on Arable Crops.
