§ 58. Mr. J. L. Williamsasked the Minister of Food what action he will take to meet the complaints among Glasgow housewives of unequal distribution of unrationed foodstuffs in short supply, owing to excessive allocations to large stores where the purchases are mainly nonregistered customers.
§ Mr. StracheyUnrationed foods are not normally allocated by my Department, but to ensure fair distribution, manufacturers and distributors have been asked to supply their customers in proportion to their prewar trade, adjusting their figures to meet rises or falls in population. I have no reason to think that this request has not been complied with in Glasgow, but if my hon. Friend cares to let me have details I will gladly make further inquiries.
