§ 32. Mr. Boyd-Carpenterasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what is the amount of the funds held by the Crown Agents for the Colonies on behalf of Malay States which have been transferred to the Malayan Union by the Malayan Union Order in Council, specifying the amount so transferred in respect of each State.
§ Mr. George HallAs the answer is rather long and contains a number of figures, I will, with the hon. and gallant Member's permission, circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT.
§ Following is the answer:
§ The total funds so transferred to the Government of the Malayan Union amounted to approximately £25,000,000 of which, approximately £4,500,000 represented funds to meet specific liabilities taken over by the Malayan Union Government such as Post Office Savings Bank deposits. Loan Sinking Funds, Deposit Accounts, etc. These figures are exclu- 1986 sive of the Malayan Currency Funds amounting to approximately £56,000,000, and constituting the backing for the common Malayan currency which is now under the joint control of the Malayan Union and Singapore Governments.
§ The following statement gives details of the funds belonging to the Federated Malay States and of each of the Un-federated Malay States.
