§ 77 Lieut.-Commander Joynson-Hicksasked the Minister of Food whether he is aware that the unseasonable weather has considerably retarded the ripening of the strawberry crop; and if he will, accordingly, extend the closing date of the period fixed for the growers' price of 175s. per cwt. from 9th June to 23rd June.
§ Mr. StracheyI would refer the hon. and gallant Member to the reply given on 29th May to my hon. Friend the Member for Winchester (Mr. Jeger), to which there is nothing which I can usefully add.
§ Lieut.-Commander Joynson-HicksIn view of the fact that the previous reply caused great dissatisfaction to the growers in question, will the right hon. Gentleman reconsider the matter au fond?
§ Mr. StracheyI am willing to consider it, but I am advised that the only remedy, which would be to vary the dates of the' price drop with the variation of the season, presents the greatest difficulties.
