§ 54. Captain John Crowderasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether any decision has yet been reached as to the permanent location of the surtax branch of the Inland Revenue Department.
§ Mr. DaltonNo, Sir.
§ Captain CrowderDoes the Chancellor intend to keep this Department indefinitely out of London, and if that is his intention, would he bear in mind the hardship on some of the girls employed in the provinces who have their homes in London and have to live in lodgings all the year round except at holidays?
§ Mr. DaltonI have recently seen some of the members of the staff from Llandudno and have talked with them, and I am acquainted with what they have told me orally as well as with what I have read. It is not at all satisfactory, and I would like to move the staff from Llandudno to some more suitable place as soon as possible. A beginning has been made with the Departmental Claims Branch, and we shall go on with the others stage by stage as soon as possible.
