§ 71. Mr. Edelmanasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether, in view of the express desire of the French Government for suitable immigrants, he will consult with that Government with a view to the settlement of part of the Polish forces, after demobilisation, in France.
Mr. McNeilHis Majesty's Government have already approached the French Government in this matter, but have not yet received a considered reply.
§ Mr. EdelmanI am grateful to my hon. Friend for his reply. Will he bear in mind, when these discussions take place, that a number of Polish soldiers are already in France and that they would be very happy to settle down there?
§ 73. Major Beamishasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what arrangements have been made with the Polish Provisional Government to re-unite the men and women of the Polish Armed Forces outside Poland, who cannot see their way to returning to their own country, with their Polish dependants now in Poland; and by when it is estimated that the last of such dependants will have left Poland.
Mr. McNeilI regret that I can meantime add nothing to the reply given to the hon. and gallant Member for South Pad-dington (Vice-Admiral Taylor) on 27th May.
§ Major BeamishThat reply did not give any information at all about this matter. Are we to understand that His Majesty's Government have decided to demobilise and disband the Polish Armed Forces outside Poland without insisting upon the Provisional Government giving some guarantee that the families of these men and women will be allowed to go out of Poland with their property?
Mr. McNeilIf the hon. and gallant Gentleman will exert his usual care he will see that the statement refers to families elsewhere than in the United Kingdom.
