HC Deb 31 July 1946 vol 426 c945
49. Mr. William Shepherd

asked the Minister of Food why it is that the largest manufacturers of the basic material for soapless detergents are required to export so much of their production as to cause them to lesser, supplies to the domestic market; and if he will state what action he proposes to take.

The Minister of Food (Mr. Strachey)

While the present soap shortage lasts exports of the raw material for soap substitutes will as from 15th August be restricted to token quantities.

Lieut.-Commander Joynson - Hicks

Does it mean that more soapless detergents will become available to the hair-dressing trade?

Mr. Strachey

More soap substitutes in general will become available.
