HC Deb 31 July 1946 vol 426 c937
26. Mr. Harold Davies

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether all sections of the population of Malaya are eligible for the issue of ration cards for the purchase of cloth; and whether he is satisfied that the cloth can be obtained at reasonable prices by those who need it most.

Mr. George Hall

Present supplies in Malaya fall short of the minimum required to operate any rationing scheme. The local Governments are, however, distributing available supplies of textiles under a scheme designed to get this cloth to those whose need is greatest and to prevent its disappearance into the black market. Prices and distribution under this scheme are controlled.
