HC Deb 30 July 1946 vol 426 cc777-8
41 and 42. Brigadier Rayner

asked the Secretary of State for War (1) when the public right of way will be reopened across Wallaford Down, near Buckfastleigh, Devon;

(2) if he is aware that many of the barbed wire fences surrounding Wallaford Down, near Buckfastleigh, Devon, are in an advanced state of dilapidation; that this old battle training area has not yet been made safe from unexploded bombs; and what steps he is proposing to take in the matter.

Mr. Lawson

There is no longer a military requirement for Wallaford Down. The land is in process of being transferred to the Admiralty. I am not aware of any serious dilapidation of the fences. The question of the reopening of the public right of way will be for the consideration of my right hon. Friend the First Lord of the Admiralty.
