HC Deb 30 July 1946 vol 426 cc773-4
34. Mr. W. Shepherd

asked the Secretary of State for War if he is now in a position to announce the derequisitioning of Donnington Park.

Mr. Lawson

A considerable amount of constructional work has been carried out at this depot at the public expense and it is still badly needed by the Army particularly if the release of vehicle depots on housing estates and by-pass roads is not to be unduly delayed. The possibility of releasing the track separately for use as a car testing ground was considered. It was found, however, that this would be a most expensive project, both in money and labour.

Mr. Shepherd

Can the right hon. Gentleman give any idea when this park is to be released?

Mr. Lawson

I have said that it has been considered. I cannot give any definite or any approximate date when it will be released. A quarter of a million of money has been spent on this park.
