HC Deb 24 July 1946 vol 426 cc20-1
28. Mr. Stokes

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he will now publish the McNair Report on Jewish education in Palestine.

Mr. George Hall

The report will be published very shortly.

Mr. Stokes

Can my right hon. Friend say whether the report will be available in the Library before the Debate next week?

Mr. Kenneth Lindsay

Can I press the right hon. Gentleman on that point?

Mr. Hall

I am afraid that it will not be available before the Debate next week. We are doing everything that we can, but it must be published simultaneously in Palestine and in this country, and there has been some difficulty in getting copies to Palestine.

Mr. Lindsay

I put a Question to the right hon. Gentleman two months ago asking him about this. Is there any particular reason why it should not be published simultaneously, within the next four or five days, in both countries?

Mr. Hall

I have considered that, but at the moment it does not appear to be possible. I will, however, look at the matter again.

Mr. Lindsay

Will the right hon. Gentleman try?

Mr. Hall

Yes, Sir.

Mr. Stokes

Can my right hon. Friend say whether the report condemns the extreme form of nationalist education conducted, and if it recommends a reform?

Mr. Hall

I would prefer that the matter was left until my hon. Friend sees the report.
