HC Deb 24 July 1946 vol 426 c37
66. Mr. Sparks

asked the Minister of Food if he is aware that about two pounds of bread, per animal, is fed daily to about 10,000 greyhounds; and if he will make clear his policy in regard to the feeding of bread to animals during the period of bread rationing.

Dr. Summerskill

No, Sir. If my hon. Friend will let me have evidence in support of his statement I shall be glad to go into this matter. Animals may not, of course, be fed on bread unless it is unfit for human consumption.

Mr. Sparks

As my hon. Friend has referred to bread that is unfit for human consumption, can she take any steps, in view of the bread rationing, to see that there is no bread whatever that is unfit for human consumption?

Dr. Summerskill

We hope to do so.
