§ 37. Mr. Sorensenasked the Under-Secretary of State for India what are the political difficulties that have arisen in Sind.
§ Mr. A. HendersonI have called for a report, and will communicate with my hon. Friend on its receipt.
§ Mr. SorensenCan the hon. and learned Gentleman say when this report is likely to be received in this country, in view of the serious allegations that are made about disturbances that may arise?
§ Mr. HendersonI am sure there will be no unnecessary delay on the part of the Government of India.
§ Mr. Godfrey NicholsonMay I ask how it comes about, in view of the fact that provincial self-government is operating in the Province of Sind, that the hon. Gentleman is enabled to ask this Question at all? Surely, it is not constitutional?
§ Mr. HendersonI am not quite sure whether the situation has reference to the exercise of the special powers of the Governor, or to the actions of the Legislative Assembly.
§ Mr. NicholsonIn any case, it is not proper for the India Office to answer questions with regard to a Province in which self-government is working.
§ Mr. SpeakerI think that point would have been looked at before the Question was accepted at the Table. I am aware of the point the hon. Gentleman has in mind, and I am sure it would have been looked at.
§ Mr. SorensenCannot we take it that Questions which have passed the Table are quite in Order?
