HC Deb 16 July 1946 vol 425 cc1057-8
89. Mr. Collins

asked the Secretary of State for War if he is aware that Somerset County Council premises at Sandhill Park. formerly used as a special school for mentally backward children, which were requisitioned as a military hospital, have long since been vacated but are still subject to requisition order; and whether, in view of the urgent need for accommodation of this kind, he will take immediate action to release the property to the county council.

Mr. Bellenger

These premises are in process of derequisition and will be given up as soon as negotiations between the owners and the War Department in respect of fittings have been completed.

Mr. Collins

Can my hon. Friend give the House any idea when these premises are likely to be derequisitioned, as they have been empty for such a long time and are so urgently needed?

Mr. Bellenger

Very soon, but I will endeavour to speed up the negotiations.
