HC Deb 16 July 1946 vol 425 cc1052-3
71. Major Roberts

asked the Minister of Labour what number of ex-members of His Majesty's Forces who have not yet taken up employment, given as 840,000 as at end of April, 1946, are still on demobilisation leave.

Mr. Isaacs

I regret that this information is not available.

Major Roberts

Surely, these men are being paid, or have been paid, therefore there must be information about it?

Mr. Isaacs

They are being paid, and they are drawing their pay, but when they come along to the employment exchanges and sign on we are not entitled to say to these men: "Are you on leave receiving full pay?" That is what we are being asked to do.
