§ 30. Major Mott-Radclyffeasked the Minister of Education the maximum grant available to cover the cost of the necessary books to students receiving an award under the Further Education and Training Scheme.
§ Miss WilkinsonGrants are based on standard figures for maintenance recommended to me by the committee of the university concerned. The cost of books is included in the figures. There is no special "book" grant. If a student has exceptionally heavy expenditure on books, and his college recommend that he needs special help, we can give him an addition to his grant.
§ Mr. Wilson HarrisAre the necessary books generally available, or are most of them out of print, as so many educational books are?
§ Miss WilkinsonThe position has been much more difficult than it is now, but, through the activities of what is known as the Moberly Committee, I think there is now as much paper as educational publishers can take up.
