HC Deb 09 July 1946 vol 425 cc203-4
1. Mr. Spence

asked the Secretary of State for War why a military building, size approximately 4,000 square feet, is at present being built near Huntly Station, Aberdeenshire; why it has been necessary to use 399 tons of bottoming 23 tons of cement in making the floor of this building; and how many man-hours have so far been expended.

The Secretary of State for War (Mr. J. J. Lawson)

This building is required for extra storage at the depot, due to the release of requisitioned and other premises elsewhere. The floor had to be designed to take heavy weights on the loamy subsoil and be raised to a suitable level. The building is due to be completed on 12th July, the total labour involved being 24 men for about seven weeks.

Mr. Spence

What is the purpose of this building? What troops are to come into the Huntly area, which is not a military area, to justify the putting up of this building?

Mr. Lawson

This is a command depot. I understand that this building has to take very heavy stores.
