§ 53. Mr. Osborneasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what dollars were provided to import timber-framed houses from Canada to the Burton-on-Trent area; and if it is intended to extend these purchases
§ Mr. DaltonA licence has been issued for the import from Canada of 250 houses valued at £118,750. No further licences have, as yet, been issued.
§ Mr. OsborneMay I ask the Chancellor whether, if these houses which are being imported by private enterprise prove to be successful and satisfactory he will assure the House that the lack of dollars will not prevent more being brought into this country?
§ Mr. DaltonI cannot give a completely unconditional commitment as to dollar expenditure, but in so far as private enterprise, with the approval of public authority, makes application to] houses of this kind, I would certainly be sympathetic to further licences being granted.
