HC Deb 28 February 1946 vol 419 cc2106-7
59. Sir R. Glyn

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer when a White Paper will be presented to Parliament indicating the United Kingdom expenditure on the war effort up to the date of the armistice with Japan and bringing up to date the previous document, Cmd. 6623, covering the period 1938 to 1944.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer (Mr. Dalton)

As my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister has already stated, a White Paper on the United Kingdom War Effort is now in preparation. A new issue of the White Paper on the National Income (Cmd. 6623) will be published just before the forthcoming Budget.

Sir R. Glyn

Does the Chancellor realise that the White Paper to which I referred is incomplete unless it gives a complete record of this country in the war effort? It would have a very great effect, particularly in America.

Mr. Dalton

Yes, Sir, I am very anxious to do that, but there are two complementary White Papers, not one.
