HC Deb 28 February 1946 vol 419 cc2100-1
49. Air-Commodore Harvey

asked the Minister of Labour the latest known figures of unemployed males and females in Macclesfield.

The Minister of Labour (Mr. Isaacs)

At 14th January, 1946, the latest date for which figures are available, the numbers of unemployed insured persons on the register of Macclesfield employment exchange were 104 males and one female.

Air-Commodore Harvey

Is the Minister aware that the difficulty has been in creasing since that date and will he consider lending his support to the President of the Board of Trade to attract new industries to this town which is almost entirely dependent on its traditional industry of silk?

Mr. Isaacs

I was not aware of an increase since then. In reply to the second part of the supplementary question, I can give the assurance that I will give every support to the President of the Board of Trade.
