§ 29. Mr. Bowlesasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether his attention has been drawn to the summoning of the court, at which the justices of the Gilling, East division of the North Riding of Yorkshire, heard an application brought by their chairman under the Small Tenements Recovery Act, 1838, at an occasional court house at Darlington on 26th November, 1945, to the subsequent proceedings in connection with the application; and whether he proposes to take any action in the matter.
§ Mr. EdeYes, Sir. 1 have brought this matter to the notice of the Lord Chancellor, who has been in communication with the justices concerned, and it has been decided that there should be a public inquiry into the proceedings in this case. The Lord Chancellor and I have appointed the right hon. Lord Justice Tucker to conduct the inquiry, which I understand will be held at Northallerton on 8th March.
§ Mr. BowlesWhen the learned Judge makes his report will it be published in a White Paper for the benefit of hon. Members?
§ Mr. EdeThis is a matter which is not entirely within my control, but I will consult with my Noble Friend the Lord Chancellor. I think the report will be published.
