§ 17. Sir Waldron Smithersasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when he expects to receive the report of the committee which has been sitting for nearly a year and which is inquiring into provision for children deprived of normal home life; and if he will ask the committee to expedite their report.
§ Mr. EdeThis committee has submitted an interim report on the training in child care of residential workers in homes and institutions for children. This report is now being printed for publication. I understand that the committee hope to complete their inquiry within the next few months, and to report as soon as possible afterwards.
§ Sir W. SmithersIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that he cannot act on an interim report? What 1 am asking is that the final report should be expedited so that action can be taken.
§ Mr. EdeThe interim report deals with a very important matter. I have been in touch with the chairman of the committee, and she assures me that they are approaching the end of taking evidence, and will very soon be on the task of drafting what she hopes will be the final report.
§ Sir W. SmithersThank you.
