HC Deb 26 February 1946 vol 419 cc1730-1
31. Mr. Butcher

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power what steps he is taking to make known to occupiers of premises in rural areas having no gas or electricity, that they are recognised as having a claim to supplies of solid fuel in excess of the maximum permitted without licence.

Mr. Shinwell

Consumers have been repeatedly advised in the national Press, and in the local papers in every district, that the local fuel overseer can grant additional quantities to those entirely dependent on coal for cooking and heating. Coal merchants are also aware of the procedure and can advise their customers.

Colonel Gomme-Duńcan

Will the Minister bear in mind that, although fuel overseers can grant this, very often the fuel is not available?
