HC Deb 26 February 1946 vol 419 c1747
67 and 68. Mr. Wilson Harris

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury (1) whether directions will be given for such documents as the Record Office has ready for publication to be bound and published forthwith;

(2) whether the programme of publication of Record Office works in force in 1939 can now be resumed.

Mr. Glenvil Hall

These matters are under consideration, and I will communicate with the hon. Member as soon as possible.

Mr. Harris

Does the hon. Gentleman realise that these documents form the raw material of history, and that there is a large sale for them in the United States, which brings in dollar exchange? I am sure he does not want to put scholarship on a coupon basis.

Mr. Hall

I think that is true, but there are printing and other difficulties which prevent our returning to prewar activities as soon as we would like.

Mr. Ralph Assheton

Would the Financial Secretary inform not only the hon. Gentleman, but the House as well?
